This year, Metropolitan will relocate to their new state of the art facility at 11 Water Street. The new building, designed specifically for the unique needs of the school, will feature technological innovations essential to supporting a cutting-edge business curriculum.

Metropolitan Business Academy integrates business concepts and skills into all areas of its college preparatory education. Through an interdisciplinary approach, MBA prepares students to successfully work in business enterprises to compete in a 21st century global economy.

MBA students are successfully working with Quinnipiac University SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) students creating and promoting Café Cameroon coffee. The students help the residents of Bawa, a village in the West Province of Cameroon, Africa, to export their high-grade coffee beans to the US. The goal of the project is to create enough profit to build and sustain a much-needed health center in the Bawa community.

Similar to choosing a college major, students will elect a course of study aligned to one of three business career pathways:

  • Accounting & Finance - Students will study accounting practices, investments, personal finance management, and economics.
  • Business Ownership & Management - Students will learn through training and experience what it takes to own and operate a business in the 21st century global economy.
  • Advertising & Marketing - Students will use digital media technologies to create and promote goods and services. They will learn how major companies target customers and develop marketing strategies.

Metropolitan requires students to dress daily in business casual attire. This dress code is aligned with a culture and climate that is directly connected with the business world. Before graduating from MBA, all students must complete an Internship and Capstone project. Students benefit from innovative partnerships, grants and competitions designed to encourage business learning. MBA’s Advisory Board provides students with real business problems and growing business trends in our community. They offer suggestions to present students with the rigor and challenges that are expected of successful employees. The small school population allows teachers and students to form a close rapport. Students are challenged to improve and refine their communication skills in order to have successful experiences in internships, job shadowing and community service opportunities.

What our students are saying...

I am an eleventh grader who attends MBA. Throughout my years here I have become close with my fellow students. Each classroom has a warm feeling where students can express themselves without fear of ridicule. MBA offers great opportunities. I have had the chance to take college classes and also join a program which prepared me for college. If students are looking for a welcoming environment they should consider attending Metropolitan. - Donald W., Grade 11

As a senior at Metropolitan Business Academy, I have personally experienced some of the more exciting points this school has to offer. The most prominent of which was the chance to attend Yale for the summer as a Shafer Family Scholarship Recipient. I can honestly say that other students should attend due to the amazing learning experiences that Metro offers such as life skills and once in a lifetime opportunities. - Donovan W., Grade 12
