Hyde Leadership School is the only “character first” school in the New Haven area. Hyde offers a college preparatory program which includes honors classes, independent study opportunities at area colleges, SAT preparation, and college advisement. Hyde works to instill the five values of courage, curiosity, integrity, character and leadership into its students.

Hyde differs significantly from traditional high schools in three ways:

First, Hyde enrolls families rather than students, forging partnerships with parents and guardians to bridge the gap between home and school.

Second, at Hyde there is an innovative approach to discipline that holds students responsible for their actions and helps students address nonproductive attitudes and behaviors.

Third, each student participates in a five-part curriculum: college preparatory academics, competitive athletics, performing arts, community service and leadership training.

Hyde is one of the smallest high schools in the state and yet its athletic program has won its share of state championships including Football, Basketball and Track and Field. At Hyde, sports are seen as a way to build character. They are a privilege that must be earned based on academics and behavior.

Hyde Leadership is a place for discovery and new challenges that helps to bring each student’s gifts to the surface. Hyde graduates are prepared for college and careers with a sense of who they are, what they want, and the confidence to pursue their dreams.

What our students are saying...

Hyde is a great learning environment and a great community of staff, students, and teachers. I feel that Hyde will help students develop their character in various ways and will teach them how to step up and take on a roll that they would not normally take on. - Matthew, Grade 12
