Davis Street’s theme is “Celebrating Literacy through the Arts, Technology and Multiculturalism.”

Davis Street seeks to empower students to successfully meet the challenges of change through the Comer educational philosophy which recognizes that children need nurturing through a collaboration of teachers, administrators, families and community.

The school’s nurturing environment promotes student excellence in academics; students learn to be goal setters and independent thinkers by developing their social skills and learning how to make good choices. The school’s success can be substantiated by scores on the Connecticut Mastery Test which continually show progress toward achieving Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) status. Davis has been designated a Tier 1 School in New Haven. In keeping with the school’s theme, Davis embraces diversity and inclusion with ongoing thematic units of study that focus on other nations. A culminating event, the annual International Day Celebration, provides students with the opportunity to share their research with parents and the community.

Davis features two bands: the 21C Marching Band and the Little People’s Band for those just starting out in instrumental instruction. The 21C Band performs locally in parades and celebrations, as well as at special events.

Since research shows that students are more focused without the distraction of keeping up with current fashions, students at Davis are encouraged to wear uniforms which are available online at www.dennis.com or Custom Tees on Whalley Ave., New Haven.
