International Communication Theme: John C. Daniels School of International Communication aims to expand students' knowledge about the world's diverse countries and people so that they are equipped and empowered to communicate with each other and across cultures. Daniels is New Haven's first Spanish/English dual language school, and all children are instructed in Spanish and English with the goal of bilingualism and bi-literacy.

Dual Language: In grades K and 1, students are taught reading and writing in their primary language and they learn Math, Science and Social studies in both English and Spanish. A limited number of parents may also choose to immerse their English-dominant students in the Spanish component beginning in Kindergarten. Beginning in 2nd grade, students are taught all subjects in in Spanish and in English.

Beautiful Facilities: Daniels School is a beautiful new building completed in 2006. Walls of windows look out onto a contained inner courtyard where students eat lunch, relax and enjoy performances and town meetings held in the outdoor amphitheater. The new facility offers state-of-the art technology, a dual language library media center and ample athletic facilities.

JCD Uniform: All students (PK-8) wear khaki pants or skirts with navy blue polo shirts. Sneakers are needed for gym days and hooded shirts are not allowed.
