Neighborhood Preference

There are two types of preferences given to applicants: Neighborhood + Sibling

For New Haven applicants, Neighborhood preference is the highest preference given in the Lottery.  Neighborhood Preference will be given if the applicant lives within the attendance zone of one of their school choices.  Search below to see if you live within the attendance zone of a magnet school.

Magnet Schools that offer Neighborhood Preference include:

  • Barnard
  • Beecher
  • Brennan-Rogers
  • John C. Daniels
  • Davis Street
  • East Rock Community
  • Edgewood
  • King/Robinson
  • John S. Martinez
  • Mauro-Sheridan
  • Ross Woodward
  • Betsy Ross
  • Hillhouse
  • Wilbur Cross

For all applicants, both New Haven and Interdistrict, Sibling preference will be given when a brother or sister is currently attending the school to which the applicant has applied.  The brother or sister must live in the same household and have the same parent.

NOTE: Neighborhood and/or Sibling Preference do not guarantee that your child will be placed in a Magnet, Charter or ACES school.  It means that your child will be given priority in the Lottery.
