Hill Regional Career High Magnet School provides students with the skills and education necessary to pursue college study in the fields of Health/Science or Business/ Technology. Ninety-two percent of Career graduates continue their study in two- or four-year colleges.
As a college preparatory high school our daily schedule resembles a college schedule, with 86 minute class periods. Career offers 12 Advanced Placement courses: Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, Statistics, English Language, English Literature, US History, US Government, World History, Psychology, Spanish and Microeconomics. It also offers honors and college preparatory courses in every subject area, and students can pursue independent studies at local colleges to earn college credits.
Career’s Independent Study/ Seminar Program provides qualified students access to courses at local colleges for college credit. Classes and internships are supported with resources provided by Career’s BOOST initiative.
Teachers, counselors and parents help students choose a focused area of study in addition to core academic classes. Students earn 28 credits to graduate, more than the state mandate or any other New Haven High School. All students must take Computer Applications, Latin (Health/Science students take 2 years of Latin), four years of mathematics, and a minimum of 2 years of a world language (Spanish, French, Arabic). Students must earn a minimum of 7 credits each year to matriculate to the following grade level.

2012 Lottery Results Data
2012 Lottery Results Data
In an effort to help make families make informed decisions about choosing magnet and charter schools, for the first time NHPS is publishing last year’s lottery data for each magnet and charter school at the bottom of each page. Although the data changes year to year, you can see a snapshot by grade level of how many seats were available, how many applicants applied, how many applicants lived in the neighborhood and how many applicants had siblings. Seats and applicants are specific to New Haven and suburban residents. Hopefully this added information, along with attending Open Houses, will give families the information necessary to choose schools that will fit the individual needs of their children.
