Application Rules

  1. Students currently attending a magnet school DO NOT need to reapply to that school.
  2. Fill out one application per child.

  4. Applicants may list up to three different choices on the application. Applicants are not required to make more than one choice.
  5. Select only those schools your child is willing to attend.  The priority will be to assign you to your first preference; however, you may be assigned to any one of your choices.
  6. Sibling preference will be given when a brother or sister is currently attending the school to which the applicant has applied. The brother or sister must live in the same household and have the same parent.
  7. To apply for PreK-3, child must be 3 years old by January 1, 2011.  To apply for PreK-4, child must be 4 years old by January 1, 2011.  To apply for Kindergarten, child must be 5 years old by January 1, 2011.
  8. Late applications will be accepted, but the applicant will be placed at the end of the waiting list.  Sibling preference will not be given to late applicants.
  9. Those placed in a magnet school will be assigned to one of their choices by a random selection process.  Those accepted will reflect a geographic balance.
  10. If an applicant is not randomly selected for one of their choices, the applicant will be placed on a Waiting List.  Students will be called from the waiting list periodically to fill any vacancies that occur.
  11. The waiting list will be maintained until the end of October.  After that time, the waiting list will be discontinued and you will be notified.
  12. In the event that an applicant is retained after the lottery and the applicant was accepted to a magnet school, the applicant will not be able to keep the magnet seat. That application will become null and void. The parent must fill out a new application with the correct grade.
