Students at Benjamin Jepson Multi-Age School learn together in mixed age groupings. For example, kindergarten and first grade students are combined in the same classroom. Students benefit from staying with the same teacher for two years through 5th grade. Teachers have more time to monitor each child’s development and mastery of skills.

Jepson’s multi-age philosophy promotes the practice of teaching children of different ages and ability levels together, grouping students into flexible groups. These groupings allow children to learn at their own pace and according to their abilities – no matter what their age or grade level.

Students at Jepson take a rigorous course of study in language arts, math, science, social studies, physical education, technology, music and art. Challenging and developmentally appropriate lessons promote high student achievement. Curricula related field trips are planned across all grade levels and content areas. These trips motivate students to apply their classroom knowledge to real world experiences. Students are expected to become hardworking, contributing members of their communities. In addition, community service projects are an integral part of our curriculum.

Students learn through cooperation at Jepson. Children gain skills and complete projects by working together in small groups within the classroom. This cooperative spirit carries over into the school’s physical education program where teamwork is emphasized over winning.

What our students are saying...

"I think other kids should come to Jepson because it’s a helpful school were you learn a lot. We are a multi-age school. I have both 4th and 5th grade in my class and we learn in fun ways. We have character shares, monthly reading projects, hands on science, and a lot of great field trips. We have a huge library to sign out books and a tech lab where we learn how to use the computer for projects." -Abigail, 5th grade

"I most enjoy our special days that we have every year. We have Biorgraphy Social, Multicultural Day, Character Dress Up Day, Read Aloud Day, Poetry Jam, Dr. Seuss Night, The Spring Thing, and many other fun events. Other kids should attend Jepson because the teachers and principals make you feel comfortable and smart. If you come to Jepson you will meet students from many other communities. It is a great place to make friends and learn." - Abigail S. Upper Intermediate Team (grades 4/5)
