Our Mission

East Rock Community Magnet School’s focus is to have students at all levels be aware of their responsibilities to the community. As we are unfolding this new focus, students will learn about the many different agencies and community resources that help make New Haven a wonderful and exciting place to live. Students will participate in community projects both at the school and sites throughout the City of New Haven.

At East Rock Magnet School, we are guided by the Comer Process; therefore, we stress the total development of each child: morally, intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. Through continued collaboration among the school, community, parents and learners, it is our goal to develop students who are academically-prepared, while being productive and responsible members of society.

During the 2012-2013 school year, students at East Rock will be required to wear uniforms. The uniforms are blue or white shirts and navy or tan pants which can be purchased at any store that sells clothing. Research has found that students are more focused and perform better in school without the distraction of keeping up with fashion trends.

The East Rock School community is excited to announce that there will be a new school built on the old site at 133 Nash Street. The school is scheduled to be completed by January 2013.

What our students are saying...

“One of the greatest things about East Rock is the diversity among students, teachers and administrators. I came here in first grade knowing almost no English. I adapted quickly and have been able to achieve many things. I love the teachers and administrators at East Rock. They not only provide great programs, but are also very caring, encouraging, and so friendly.” -Wengel, 8th grade

“East Rock is a very loving school. Students work hard to achieve their goals and teachers are always there to help.” -Soniya, 7th grade

“One of the most exciting things about East Rock is the CMT Pep Rally. It is really fun and it gets us excited to take the CMT. Since I have been at East Rock, I have participated in CPEP and received a Golden Apple Award for my academic achievements. One thing that I would like to tell people about my school is that we have great teachers!” -Laurent, grade 7
