School Overview

Brennan-Rogers: The Art of Communication and Media provides students with a specialized curriculum focused on communication through the spoken and written word, integrated with technological advances in media.

Students use communication tools and 21st century emerging technology tools to support content learning and develop skills required for the mastery of the New Haven curriculum, Connecticut, and national standards.

In Social Studies students will learn about the history of communication through Talking Walls throughout the world. They will learn the language of Math, different math systems, and analyze graphs to communicate mathematical ideas. They will learn the Science of sound and the science of GPS technology and the Internet. English Language Arts will be further supported through a strong Broadcast Journalism program in which students will research relevant stories, write scripts and deliver the news via TV and through podcasting.

Visual and Performing Arts will be studied as a means of communication and will be integrated into all subject areas.

What our students are saying...

"Brennan-Rogers is for leaders only. At Brennan-Rogers we don’t tell kids what to do - we inform students of their choices and let them decide what to do. I like our focus on communication through arts and media, because without it I would never have discovered how good I am at computers and creating videos." -Keyshawn, 8th grade, recipient of the 2011 Heroes of the Heart Award

"We are an EL school that holds weekly Community Meetings. At the meetings we get to display the work we did in class and in our clubs each week. The great thing about clubs is that you get to choose which one you are in and they switch so you can participate in different ones during the year." -Emani, grade 7, New Haven
